Adobe Premiere Pro

Adobe Premiere Pro

Adobe have been slowly writing their own QuickTime support for some time and say that many codecs - "including uncompressed, DV, IMX, MPEG2, XDCAM, h264, JPEG, DNxHD, DNxHR, AVCI and Cineform" - currently work without QuickTime for Windows.  However, one codec that will not work is ProRes.  They have currently not given a time frame for this to be fixed.  You can read more here: http://blogs.adobe.com/creativecloud/quicktime-on-windows/

Update 25th May 2016

Adobe recently produced an updated statement on their support for QuickTime files on Windows. They are now saying that they have accelerated their work on supporting different types of QuickTime file and support for reading both ProRes and DNxHD/HR QuickTime files will be in Premiere quite soon. They do not say anything aout support for export or other types of QuickTime files. You can read the post on their blog here:http://blogs.adobe.com/creativecloud/apple-quicktime-on-windows-update/
