B V E show 25th-27th February - stand C42
The annual BVE show takes place on at the end of February and DVC will be there as usual. Our stand is near the front of the hall and close to the Production Services area, on the same block as the IOV.
As usual we will be show casing the latest from Grass Valley, Adobe,Avid, Blackmagic and Matrox, with some of our custom-built systems on the stand, our brilliant Thunderbolt laptop and more.
We will also have various items of stock on the stand for you to buy, many at special show prices.
Several customers have asked us what's new and worth seeing at B.V.E. Apart from seeing the latest versions of EDIUS, Avid, Vegas and Premiere Pro, as well as plug-ins like VisTitle, the "big thing" at the show will be 4K video. If you have never seen 4K before this will be your chance as it is bound to be everywhere. We are hoping the Blackmagic 4K Cinema Camera may be shipping by then, there are rumours of a relatively low cost Panasonic 4K camera and Sony will no doubt have their 4K devices on their stand. 4K is not something you can appreciate without seeing it so it is worth coming to the show just to see some of the best examples available.
You can register for the show at the BVE website:https://registration.n200.com/survey/05idzn5tnib11?check=1Registration is free if you do so before the show. If you don't register then you will have to pay to get in - so it makes sense to register in advance even if you decide later not to go!
We hope to see you there.
We had some great offers available just before Christmas and have been able to continue with them into the new year. We are going to keep the offers going right up to the end of the month to coincide with the B V E show.
In addition to the offers we had from December we are also running some special offers on some DVC systems.
The 2011 pin system has a 6 core processor, and can have up to 64GB memory. It is the most powerful single processor system we do, and is very expandable. We are knocking £300 inc VAT off a typical 2011 pin system making it even closer in price to the regular Haswell system. The special offer starts at a particular specification but you can customise it, add more hard drives, RAM or monitors and you can even upgrade the system to have a 10 core single Xeon processor. We can install and test any of the editing programs we supply or install one you already own if you prefer.
You can see the expect specification of the system and configure your add ons here: http://www.dvc.uk.com/acatalog/2011-Pin-offer.html
Two processors are better than one, they just cost more. The DVC Xeon systems are the fastest you can get and these days the 64 bit editing programs we supply all take advantage of the extra power.
Until the end of this month we are knocking £400 inc VAT off the price of a typical Xeon based system. You can choose to customise the system, adding hard drives, video i.o cards and the editing program of your choice here:http://www.dvc.uk.com/acatalog/Dual-Xeon-offer.html
DVC on Facebook
We have started a DVC Facebook page which you can see here: https://en-gb.facebook.com/dvcvideo
We will post items of news and offers as they happen as well as information on any other items in which we think you may be interested. The Facebook page will not replace the newsletter, the newsletter will just be an amalgam of articles and news posted on the page.
If you have ideas for any useful items you would like to see there just drop us a line.
Adobe CC for Teams offer ends 28th February
Adobe have been running an offer for people upgrading from CS3 and later versions of their software to Creative Cloud and this is set to end on the 28th February, You may have seen us say the offer is coming to an end in previous newsletters, which is true, as Adobe have now extended this offer twice. We do not know if they will extend it again but you should assume they won't and order before the deadline if you want to order at the reduced price.
lower subscription price for the whole suite or just one product
At DVC we sell Creative Cloud for Teams which, as the name suggests, is intended for teams of users. It has quite a few benefits for use in a multi-user environment; for individuals CC for Teams offers more on-line web space and two support calls to a higher level of support than regular Creative Cloud, however, it is normally more expensive than the "regular" Creative Cloud sold by Adobe. Of course if you get CC for Teams through us at DVC you get support from us as well; if you buy regular CC direct from Adobe we cannot offer support unless you get us to install it on a system for you.
However, CC for Teams has two offers not available on the Adobe site:
- CC for teams upgrade from CS3 or later - price fixed for two years. At the current DVC price of £29.91+VAT per month this actually works out cheaper than buying the upgrade through regular Creative Cloud where the lower price is fixed for 1 year.
- You can get an upgrade for just one product using Cc for Teams - from Premiere Pro CS3 to Premiere Pro CC, for example - an offer which is not available on the Adobe site. This upgrade is currently £14.29+VAT per month from us at DVC.
Unlike regular Creative Cloud you buy CC for Teams from us at DVC and pay us a year's subscription in one go. No payment information is stored either here or with Adobe - not something we thought was that important until Adobe had their security problem last year.
You can read more about Creative Cloud and CC for teams on our website: http://www.dvc.uk.com/acatalog/Adobe-Creative-Cloud.html
VisTitle tutorial to be available end Feb
We have been asked for a decent VisTitle tutorial many times, but have not made one ourselves for several reasons. Firstly it is extremely time consuming and secondly, to be honest, we are just not that good at creating good looking titles!
However, we are going to be importing a very good VisTitle tutorial made in the US. The tutorial is made by Jerry Hatfield, a frequent contributor to the Grass Valley forums and long term EDIUS user. The tutorials will consists of 3 main sections:
- The desktop tutorials - a series of lessons to get you familiar with the basics of the program
- The plug-in tutorials - A set of 9 tutorials covering the various plug-ins available with Vistitle
- The "how to" tutorials - a series of 6 tutorials on how to make certain types of title from scratch.
One of the latter tutorials is available for free from the SGDV website. This free tutorial is about 26 minutes long an describes how to take a couple of images and turn them into a 3D coin, with animation inside of VisTitle using the 2D to 3D plug-in.
The tutorial will be available by the end of this month and we will have stock with us at the BVE show. You can also order it off our website.
The price has not been finalised although we are anticipating it at around £65+VAT.
You can pre-order it from our website now. No money will be taken until the tutorial ships and if the final price is lower than £65 we will adjust the amount we charge when the items ships. Click here to order: http://www.dvc.uk.com/acatalog/SGDV_vistitle.html
You can read more and see the sample tutorial on the SGDV website: http://sgdvtutorials.com/
Blackmagic pocket cameras in stock
After a long wait we can now report we have stock of Blackmagic Pocket cameras, and all the back orders have been full filled, so if you order a pocket camera from us you should get it the next day.
The Blackmagic pocket camera can film in a RAW video format which gives you much greater latitude to improve the pictures in post production. It is the cheapest camera around that offers this kind of filming. It takes Micro 4 thirds lenses and may take other types with the correct kind of adaptor.
You can read more and order the camera from our webshop:http://www.dvc.uk.com/acatalog/Blackmagic-Pocket-Camera.html
First shipments of the Blackmagic 4K camera is also expected soon. We may have one to show off at B.V.E. but we won't be certain until we get nearer the show.
The regular Blackmagic Cinema cameras are also in stock.
Thunderbolt 2 systems and new Blackmagic Thunderbolt 2 devices
We have been making Thunderbolt systems for quite some time, both with laptops and desktops. Thunderbolt is a new way to connect external devices to a computer and gives a very fast connection. Thunderbolt connections first appeared on Apple Macs, where they were fairly essential since you cannot upgrade most MACS internally and have to chain things off the Thunderbolt port. We have had Thunderbolt ports on PCs for quite some time; they are not quite as essential on a PC as they are on a MAC since you can easily add components to PCs and customise them internally, but a Thunderbolt port means you can access faster external drives and add video cards like the Blackmagic UltraStudio 4K - giving you video in and out at all resolutions up to 4K.
Recently Thunderbolt has had an upgrade with Thunderbolt 2. Thunderbolt 2 is not twice as fast as Thunderbolt 1 - which is what you would assume from the name - but is faster. The original Blackmagic UltraStudio could to 4K video at 25P and 30P, with Thunderbolt 2 is now now do 4K video at 50P and 60P.
We are now testing new motherboards with Thunderbolt 2 included, which we hope to have finished testing and have on display on our stand at B V E at the end of the month.
