  • Ex-demo HP laptop with express card
  • DVC Black Magic DaVinci Resolve systems available
  • EDIUS 6.52 released

Adobe special offersUntil 30th November you can buy the entire Production Premium at 30% off the regular price.  The Production Premium includes Adobe Premiere Pro, Encore, After Effects, Photoshop Extended (the version which lets you paint on video), Audition, Illustrator, Flash Pro, Speedgrade and Prelude.  Our DVC price for this offer is999+VAT.   Adobe Premiere Pro on its own costs 629+VAT so for an extra 370 you will get all the extra Adobe programs.

Who is eligible?

Video professionals and broadcasters and owners of qualifying Adobe products - essentially just about everyone.  If using a different editing program this gives you access to all the Adobe software at a discount price - all of which complement ANY editing program.  It also gives an upgrade path to anyone who has a version of the Production Premium prior to CS3.  At the moment there are upgrades available for CS3 and later versions to the CS6 suite, but not for people with earlier versions.   The upgrade is available as a licence, not as a boxed version, although this does not make any real practical difference.

What proof is needed?

Obviously we will need name, address etc.  If changing from another program we would need this information as well.  However a serial number or proof of ownership document is not required.

Is a licence version different to a boxed version?

This offer is ONLY available if buying a licence version of the software rather than a boxed version.  A licensed version is exactly the same as the boxed version, but you download the software and install it, as opposed to having a box shipped.  A licensed version has the same upgrade rights etc as the boxed version.  A licence is not the same as the Adobe Cloud.  The Adobe Cloud is essentially a rental of the software and if you stop paying you lose the software.  This licence is a perpetual one - you pay for the software and it is yours.

How do I order the software?

Simply place the order on the webshop, or via phone, and we will send you a link to the licence and instructions on how to download the software, normally within a day of placing the order.  This will also give you access to your serial number.

Do I get manuals with the licence software?

Even if you buy the boxed version of the Production Premium you do not get printed manuals these days.  The help files are all on-line and can be downloaded to your computer after installation.

Are there any downsides to using a licence version rather than a boxed version?

You can order the Production Premium at this special price now from the DVC webshop: http://www.dvc.uk.com/acatalog/30--off-Adobe-Production-Premium-1865.html

Problems with the latest nVidia drivers and older version or Premiere Pro

We have had quite a few customers in the last few days have problems caused by an update to the nVidia graphic card drivers which Windows has been installing automatically.  This causes the overlay in the program window to become garbled - an example is shown opposite.  The solution is to uninstall the drivers and install older ones.  Just running the regular uninstall and re-install sometimes does not work properly so we have put the procedure we recommend for this on the website: http://www.dvc.uk.com/acatalog/ADOBE-PREMIERE-PRO-DRIVERS.html

If your computer is permanently connected to the internet we recommend that you let it install Windows updates, because these mainly fix potential security problems.  However, with any change to Windows there is always the possibility that it will stop something from working, as with this case.  Thankfully it does not happen very often but when it does we will post any solutions we have found on the "latest update" section of our website.

Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 tutorial available - Encore CS6 tutorial available soon!

OurAdobe Premiere Pro CS6 tutorial was finished last month and we will soon be making the Adobe Encore CS6 tutorial available.  This should be ready during December.  Both have been completely remade.  The Premiere Pro tutorial contains over 11 hours of material, the Encore one will be about 5 hours when finished.  Full details will of the Adobe Premiere Pro tutorial are currently on the website, where the tutorial will be available for order either by post or via download.

If you buy a system from us the Premiere Pro tutorial is included for free.

The Premiere Pro tutorial costs 69 inc VAT, the Encore tutorial will be 39 inc VAT.  You can also buy the two in a bundle for 99 inc VAT.  If you order the bundle of the two tutorials now we will send you the Premiere tutorial immediately and the Encore tutorial when finished.  We will also be posting some samples of the tutorial on the website in due course.

Special offer - Premiere Pro CS5 EDIUS keyboards 50 +VAT

With Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 Adobe changed some of the shortcuts for Premiere with the idea of streamlining them and making them more consistent with other applications.  As a result we now have a new CS6 editing keyboard with the new shortcuts emblazoned on it.  We also have a few of the old Premiere Pro CS5 shortcut keyboards left in stock which we are selling at a discount price. A new keyboard is89+VAT, our remaining stock of CS5 keyboards we are selling at 50+VAT.

The CS5 keyboard is relevant for every version of Premiere Pro from version 1 to version 5.5.  You can use it with CS6 - just pop into the keyboard shortcut section Premiere Pro and choose the Premiere Pro CS5 layout and it will work perfectly.

The keyboard itself is a nice, high quality, USB keyboard with built-in hub, so you can plug the keyboard into the computer and the mouse into the keyboard. The offer is strictly while stocks last.

EDIUS keyboards

We also have a couple of PS2 EDIUS keyboards which we are selling at 50+VAT.  Recently the new style USB white keyboard (as pictured) was introduced, which is also available at the regular price of 89+VAT.  The EDIUS keyboards on offer are the older-style PS2 black keyboards.  Since the EDIUS shortcuts have not changed over the last few versions the EDIUS keyboards are correct for EDIUS 4.5, 5, 6 & 6.5.

You can order either of these items from the DVC webshop: http://www.dvc.uk.com/acatalog/Special_Keyboards.html

Ex-demo HP laptop with express card

At DVC we sell both our own brand of laptops and HP models.  HP laptops are more expensive but have the benefit of an HP 3 year warranty as well as our own 1 year DVC warranty, are validated for use with programs like Avid Media Composer and Adobe Premiere Pro CS6, and have an express card slot.  The express card means you can use the laptop with devices like the Matrox MX02, and it also accepts XDCAM-EX sxs cards.

Recently HP have produced a new model, the 8770, which means we are now selling our demo HP 8760 (the previous model).  We have had this laptop since February this year so it still has 2 years of its HP warranty remaining as well as our standard 3 month warranty on ex-demo equipment.

The laptop specifications : 2.0Ghz i7-2630Q processor, 17inch 1920x1080 Full HD screen, 4GB RAM (can be upgraded to 16GB), 500GB Windows hard drive (you can add a second drive), DVD writer, nVidia Quadro 3000M graphic card (validated for Avid and Adobe Premiere Pro) Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.

A new HP8770 laptop with a validated spec for Avid starts at 2,199+VAT.  This ex-demo laptop is 1,099+VAT.

The laptop has been used as our demo machine and is in good condition with a few small marks on the surface and some small scratch marks on the release mechanism for the bottom of the machine.

You can read more about the ex-demo laptop here:http://www.dvc.uk.com/acatalog/HP-ex-demo-laptop.html, and see information on the new HP8770 laptops here: http://www.dvc.uk.com/acatalog/HP8770-laptop.html

DVC Black Magic DaVinci Resolve systems available

We are now supplying systems for use with Black Magic Davinci Resolve.  DaVinci Resolve is one of the best colour grading programs available.  There is a free version which can grade footage up to HD resolutions and is amazingly powerful.  The paid version lets you grade higher than HD footage and has a good noise reduction facility. The full version also comes with the new Black Magic Cinema camera and is almost essential to the workflow to get the best out of the camera.

We are now supplying systems configured to get the best out of DaVinci.  They include the right graphics card to power the software, a bay into which to slot the hard drives used by the camera to easily copy the footage for grading and a 6TB internal RAID to store the footage for grading.  You can read more about the systems on the DVC website: http://www.dvc.uk.com/acatalog/Black_Magic_Systems.html

We are also planning some video to explain the best way to use DaVinci with various editing software which we will post on our website when ready.  There is a very good quick demo of DaVinci on YouTube which gives you some idea of the power of the program and why you would use it rather than conventional colour correction filters found in editing programs.  You can view the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAbaIfMYys0

Grass Valley EDIUS 6.52 released

GRASS VALLEY have released EDIUS 6.52 which fixes various small bugs in EDIUS and adds Windows 8 support.

Also included in the list of additions is export to AVCHD 3D format.  This does not mean that you can make a full quality 3D Blu-ray disc, it is making a format which you can put back to a 3D camera for playback, rather than a 3D Blu-ray disc, and like the ability to write back to AVCHD cameras, does not works with all cameras.

Also amongst the list of fixes is the ability to work properly with AVID DNxHD footage which is particularly useful when using certain recording devices like the Black Magic Shuttle, or when exporting from EDIUS to DaVinci.

We have come across one small bug which affects cross dissolves in PAL interlace projects. The cross dissolve may have a series of vague horizontal lines - particularly noticeable with bright footage. You will only notice this while playing and probably only see it on a proper TV/Monitor attached to a device like and HDSPARK. Instead of using cross dissolves use the "rubber band" to fade clips in and out. Alternatively stay with EDIUS 6.51 for now.

We have produced a couple of transition presets which use the GPU transitions in EDIUS for cross dissolves instead of the regular effect, which cures the problem.  We have also produced a dip to black transition using the same effect.  You can download these transition presets here: http://www.dvc.uk.com/acatalog/Grass-Valley-EDIUS.html
