DVC Christmas Opening Times

Christmas is nearly here and DVC will be closing between Christmas and New Year as usual.  We will be closing down about midday on 24th December and opening again onThursday 2nd January 2014

Last minute system orders

We will be able to ship systems for delivery before Christmas if they are placed before Wednesday 18th December, stock permitting.  We can ship orders right up until the 23rd December, for arrival on 24th.  Of course you can always order systems in December for delivery in January if you prefer.

Other orders

We can ship any other items up to the 23rd December to arrive on the 24th.  Orders are either sent by next day courier or special delivery through the post so will definitely arrive before Christmas.   All of our DVC tutorials are now available for immediate download from the website so can be ordered any time, even when the office is not open.

This will be our last newsletter before Christmas so we would like to take this chance to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Open day presentation recordingsDVC Open Day Online

Our open day on the 20th November was also broadcast live on YouTube.  We mainly did this as a test of our new YouTube live account so did not make too much effort to make people aware of the live transmission.  We have now taken the videos from the transmission, edited them and  you can see the results on our YouTube channel and our website.  These sessions were primarily intended for people physically attending the open day so are not made to the same standard are our usual on-line tutorials, but do contain a lot of useful information.

You can see the full list of videos on our website: http://www.dvc.uk.com/acatalog/DVC-Open-Day-20th-November-2013.html

The videos are:

We have posted the first section of our EDIUS tutorial on-line which you can view for free on YouTube and on our website.

The 9 chapters of the tutorial take you through a complete edit in EDIUS 7, covering importing AVCHD footage, editing, trimming, adjusting audio and adding titles.  Finally, in some newly updated sections, we make a Blu-ray disc and DVD with EDIUS' built-in disc authoring tools and also export an MP4 file for upload to YouTube.  The entire tutorial lasts about 1 hour 50 minutes.

For people new to EDIUS, and people thinking of switching

This tutorial will serve as a good introduction to EDIUS for anyone who has just switched to the program, or a good place to see some of the basics of the program simply explained for anyone thinking of switching from another editor.  It also gives you a good idea of the style of presentation of our tutorial videos if you are considering investing in a set.

These videos are taken from the first section of the first disc of our 4 disc tutorial set which you can order at half price from us during the Christmas and New Year period.  If you already own our tutorials the online section is the same as on our current discs, except we have updated the last few chapters to cover the disc export from EDIUS 7, as well as making an MP4 file.

You can see the tutorials on our website (http://www.dvc.uk.com/acatalog/A-complete-edit-in-EDIUS-7.html ) and on our YouTube Channel.

You can see the full contents of our tutorial discs on our website:http://www.dvc.uk.com/acatalog/EDIUS_training_dvd.html

Premiere Pro CCGrass Valley EDIUS 7.21

Grass Valley have released a small update for EDIUS 7.  7.21 fixes a few small bugs that were in EDIUS 7.2, most notably with the After Effects plug-in bridge (a part of EDIUS that lets you use some After Effects plug-ins inside EDIUS).

The biggest addition is full support for the Matrox MX02LE and MX02 Mini.  Previously only Blackmagic and Grass Valley devices could capture and playback footage within EDIUS, and this ability is now extended to more of the Matrox MX02 range.  We do have a problem capturing analogue footage with the MX02 Mini, which is apparently not happening with MX02LE, but they both work for output from EDIUS.

This will be incredibly useful for people thinking of switching from another program, like Premiere Pro, to EDIUS who actually already own a Matrox MX02;and all you need to do is buy the EDIUS crossgrade.

You will probably be prompted to download the software by EDIUS but if not you can download the update from the Grass Valley website: http://www.grassvalley.com/login?r=%2Fsupport%2Fdownloads%2Fproducts

You can read more about EDIUS on our website:http://www.dvc.uk.com/acatalog/Canopus_Edius_Pro.html

VisTitle trial available

VisTitle is our favourite animated titling program for EDIUS, Premiere Pro and Avid Media Composer.  There are many glowing recommendations on the Internet for the program but many people like to try the program before they buy.  Now the makers of VisTitle have released a fully functional trial version which you can install into any of the three main supported editing programs - EDIUS,Premiere Pro or Avid Media Composer.

The trial version is fully functional; even the extra plug-ins, 3D particle, handwriting and Karaoke work, but everything is watermarked with the words "trial".  This means you can test every part of VisTitle but you won't be able to use it for proper work without buying the correct dongle.  VisTitle uses a USB dongle for activation so you we cannot activate it just by emailing you a serial number, however, we generally have stock constantly available.

We have a variety of tutorials on our website to help get you started which you can see here: http://www.dvc.uk.com/acatalog/Vistitle-free-tutorials.html

You can read more about VisTitle and order it from our website here: http://www.dvc.uk.com/acatalog/Vistitle-3.html

from customers about this recently.  It is not a new scam but it does seem the perpetrators are targeting the UK again more vigorously.  Someone will ring and claim that they are from "Microsoft" or "Microsoft certified" and that they have information that your computer is riddled with viruses and they can help,  They will then proceed to talk you through installing some software to test this and in the process mess up the entire machine.  They then ask for money to fix it.

If you get any phone calls like this, even if they are not claiming they are from Microsoft but some other company just hang up.  Certainly do not install any software on your computer unless you know from where it has come.

We have also had many emails recently from "banks", or "PayPal" or some delivery company with a ZIP file attachment claiming to have important information.  NEVER open these.  They may well come from someone you deal with but unless you are expecting to be sent a ZIP file our advice is to not open anything, when you do not know exactly what is supposed to be inside the file because they normally turn out to be some kind of virus.

Have a Happy Christmas!
